Comics in the Classroom – workshop at St. Clements Primary school

Written by Letty Wilson

Last week Erin Keepers, Damon Herd and I headed out to St Clements Primary for a full morning of drawing, storytelling and fun! This was the first of this kind of workshop we’ve done so far, but given the enthusiasm and creativity of the children we have hopes of putting on more events in the near future.

Activities included a talk about the origins and inner workings of comics, a live-drawing exercise with Erin Keepers and Letty Wilson, the creative team behind Cosmic, soon to be published by Universe, and a comics performance by Damon Herd. The workshop centred around allowing the children to construct their own comics, focusing on ideas of characterisation and story, and then to perform them in front of the class. Many brilliant and inventive works were created, and you can see them all in their own online gallery, coming soon.

Until then, here are some pictures from the workshop itself. Thanks to the pupils of St Clements, we had a great time!
