Monica Burns is a comic book artist living in Fife. She graduated from the MLitt in Comics and Graphic Novels at the University of Dundee in 2017.
Her special area of interest is celebrating and adapting Scottish literature. Her work was published in an anthology in conjunction with the ‘Reworking Walter Scott’ conference in 2017, and she has recently completed a funny comic with the University of Dundee about Robert Burns and William McGonagall.
She is obsessed with the work of James Hogg, and is very excited to be bringing his notorious ‘Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner’ alive in comic form.
Other illustrations of Monica’s can be seen in the coastal Aberdeenshire fortress, Dunnottar Castle, as she was commissioned to draw for their information signs.
She loves fantasy and science fiction comics, and is also the Assistant Editor of the science fiction literary magazine, Shoreline of Infinity, and has contributed many illustrations to them as well.
Currently she is working on a private commission – a comic set in a magic school in Scotland involving the Grim Reaper, witches and giants.
